Officer Nuñez and his partner crouched behind their car doors, guns withdrawn.

They repeatedly shouted orders to surrender.

The two masked men inside the store fired their assault rifles. Glass shattered.

Nuñez could hear La Bikina playing inside. Its jubilant notes disrupted the chaos.

La bikina, tiene pena y dolor…

The owners’ bodies were piled behind the doors. Fernando and Maria.

La bikina, no conoce el amor…

Fernando tried to use his body to shield Maria.

The lyrics provokingly crawled around Nuñez’s mind as bullets littered the asphalt.

Like all things, the song would end soon.

Note: This is my first entry in NYC Midnight's annual Microfiction challenge and my assignment was genre: action/adventure, action: listing to music, word: crawl. They will post results for those that made it to the 2nd round. Stay tuned!
